SCHEDULE FOR "RELIGION AND POWER: AN EXAMINATION OF RELIGION'S INFLUENCE ON SPACE, COMMUNITY AND POLITICS "

 

DAY 1 - MONDAY
Afternoon
-Arrival and check-in at Aurora Inn or E.B. Morgan House
Evening
-Champagne welcome reception at the E.B. Morgan House
-Dinner in the Aurora Inn Dining Room

 

DAY 2 - TUESDAY
Morning
-Breakfast in the Aurora Inn Dining Room
-Lecture and Discussion on Wells' campus: Introduction to the academic study of religion and theories on the origins of religion
Afternoon
-Lunch in Stratton Hall atrium
-Lecture and Disucssion, cont'd: The study of ancient religions, the origins of monotheism and the biblical writings. Discussion of important themes in biblical writings including our themes of power, space, community and politics and how biblical influence affects us today.
Evening
-Rest and relaxation in your luxurious guest room
-Dinner in the Wells College String Gallery
-Study genealogy with Professor Chris Bailey. Discover your own lineage with Professor Bailey and online genealogy research tools at Wells College. (Laptops will be available at the Aurora Inn and E.B. Morgan House for futher exploration during your stay).

 

DAY 3 - WEDNESDAY
Morning
-Early morning yoga
-Breakfast in the Aurora Inn Dining Room
-Lecture and Disucssion at Aurora Inn: Studying religion, power and sacred spaces
-Travel to Palmyra, birthplace of Mormonism, stopping at sacred spaces on the way.
-Visit the home of Joseph Smith, founder of Mormonism

Afternoon
-Enjoy a gourmet bag lunch provided by the Aurora Inn at the Hill Cumorah visitors center
-Continue visiting sites related to the origins of Mormonism, including the publication site of the Book of Mormon
Evening
-Dinner at the Fargo Bar and Grill in Aurora
-Late-night movie in the Aurora Inn Lakeside Room

 

DAY 4 - THURSDAY
Morning
-Breakfast in the Aurora Inn Dining Room
-Lecture and Discussion at Aurora Inn: Politics and Religion from ancient times through today
-On the road: Politics and religion in Central New York - travel to Fayette and Seneca Falls to look at and discuss the relationship between politics and religious movements and spaces
Afternoon
-
Lunch (on own) at a Seneca Falls Cafe
-Visit Women's Rights National Historical Park
-Stop at Montezuma Winery on the way back to Aurora

Evening
-Rest and relaxation in your luxurious guest room
-Farewell Dinner in the Aurora Inn Lakeside Room
-Games and cordials by the fire

 

DAY 5 - FRIDAY
Morning
-Breakfast in the Aurora Inn Dining Room
-Check out of guest rooms OR, stay for the weekend or the next program!
